The RPSC exam consists of the following stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Type)
  2. Main Examination (Descriptive)
  3. Interview (Personality Test)

The preliminary exam serves as a screening test for the main examination. It consists of a single paper.

  1. General Knowledge and General Science
    • History of Rajasthan and India: Significant events, freedom struggle, and contributions of Rajasthan in national movements.
    • Geography: Physical, social, and economic geography of Rajasthan and India.
    • Polity and Constitution: Indian Constitution, political system, Panchayati Raj, and state governance.
    • Economy: Indian economy and Rajasthan’s state economy, including planning and budgetary aspects.
    • Environment and Ecology: Biodiversity, environmental challenges, and climate change issues.
    • Current Affairs: Events of national and international importance with a special focus on Rajasthan.
    • Science & Technology: General scientific knowledge and recent technological developments.

The mains are descriptive in nature, testing the candidate’s depth of knowledge across various subjects. The RPSC mains consist of four papers:

  1. General Studies I: History, art, culture, literature, and heritage of Rajasthan, alongside world history and geography.
  2. General Studies II: Indian Constitution, political system, international relations, governance, social justice, and Rajasthan’s governance policies.
  3. General Studies III: Economy, development, agriculture, science, technology, environment, and security issues concerning Rajasthan.
  4. General Hindi and English: Focuses on language proficiency through essay writing, précis writing, comprehension, and grammar.

The final stage is the interview, where candidates are evaluated for their personality, communication skills, leadership abilities, and awareness of the current socio-economic and political conditions in Rajasthan. A sound understanding of the state’s history, culture, and governance is crucial.

The RPSC exam tests a candidate's ability to manage and understand local, national, and international issues, especially those concerning the governance and development of Rajasthan.
