What is GSET exam?

The Gujarat State Eligibility Test (GSET) exam is a prestigious examination conducted by the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara, on behalf of the Gujarat Government. The primary objective of the GSET exam is to evaluate the eligibility of candidates for the position of Assistant Professor in universities and colleges across Gujarat. GSET exam is an important gateway for aspiring educators who wish to pursue a career in teaching at the higher education level. The GSET exam is conducted in 33 subjects across 11 centres.

Eligibility Conditions for GSET exam 2024

1. You can apply for GSET exam for English if you have completed/are studying in a final year of a UGC specified Master’s degree in English.
2. The candidates having Post Graduate diploma/certificate awarded by Indian University/Institute or Foreign degree/diploma/certificate awarded by the Foreign University/Institute should in their own interest, ascertain the equivalence of their diploma/degree/certificate, with Master’s degree of recognized Indian Universities from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi.
3. If you have secured 55% in Master’s Degree or equivalent examination from universities/institutions recognized by UGC, then you’re eligible for GSET exam 2024. Additionally, if you belong to any reserved category, you should at least secure 50% in your post-graduation for meeting the GSET exam 2024 eligibility criteria.
4. If you are currently pursuing your Master’s degree or have appeared for your final year exams and are awaiting results, you can still apply for the GSET exam. You’ll be admitted provisionally, and your eligibility for the Assistant Professor position will be confirmed once you’ve completed your Master’s with at least 55% marks (50% for SEBC (non-creamy layer), SC, ST, PwD, and Third gender candidates). You must obtain your degree within two years of the GSET result declaration, or you will be disqualified.
5. If you belong to third gender, then you will get same relaxation in fee, age and qualifying criteria for GSET as the SC/ST categories.
6. If you hold a Ph.D. and completed your Master’s by September 19, 1991, you are eligible for a 5% relaxation in aggregate marks (from 55% to 50%) for the GSET exam.
7. There is no upper age limit to apply for the GSET exam 2024.

Rules and Regulations for the GSET exam 2024

1. If you have already qualified for the GSET exam in English once, you will not be allowed to appear again for the GSET in the same subject. If you violate this rule then you candidature and GSET certificate will be cancelled.
2. If you’re belonging to any other state except Gujarat then, you will apply as a General Category candidate even if you belong to the reserved category (SC/ST/OBC).
3. Application Fee structure:

Rs. 900/- + Bank Charges – General / Gen – EWS / SEBC (Non-creamy layer) candidates.

Rs. 700/- + Bank Charges – SC/ST/Third gender Candidates

Rs. 100/- + Bank Charges – PWD (PH/VH) Candidates

How to pay application fees for GSET exam?

1. Visit the official GSET website: gujaratset.ac.in. You can only pay application fee via online mode.
2. Follow on-screen instructions for payment of fee and print examination fee receipt generated after successful transaction.
3. You should note down and remember Order Number and SBIePay Reference ID for online registration of the application form.
4. You should keep the screenshot of the fee payment receipt for future reference.
5. Fees will not be refunded at any cost.

How to register online for GSET exam 2024?

• Before applying for the GSET exam 2024 online, you need a scanned passport size photograph in JPEG format and should not be more than 100 kb.
• You need to provide Order Number and SBIEPay Reference ID to “LOGIN” your account for filling up the form for the GSET exam 2024 by clicking “Step 2-Register Online for GSET“button available under your Login Account.
• You need to fill correct information carefully in the online application form and follow the on-screen instructions for filling up application form.
• After successful submission and confirmation, you should take the printout of filled online application form on A-4 size paper only.
• Due to technical or any other reason, if the Scanned passport (pp) size photograph uploaded by candidate does not appear / printed properly on Print out of Online Application form, you are requested to send the Scanned passport (pp) size photograph along with registration details immediately on E-Mail: info@gujaratset.ac.in

GSET exam pattern

GSET exam pattern 2024 consists of two papers which will include objective type and multiple-choice questions.

Paper I contains 50 compulsory questions carrying two marks each. These questions will evaluate the general aptitude for the GSET exam and assess the research/teaching aptitude. Further, it will focus on testing reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.

In Paper II, you will be answering 100 objective type questions each carrying two marks in English Literature. The questions in both the papers will be in English and Gujarati.

You will have to mark the right answers for questions of Paper-I and Paper-II on the OMR sheet. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.

You need to sit for both the papers otherwise, you will be disqualified. You will be only allowed to sit for Paper II if you sit for Paper I.

Timings for GSET exam 2024

The GSET exam 2024 will be of three hours. The Paper I will be for an hour from 9:30 am to 10:30 am while Paper II will take place for two hours from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm.

GSET Syllabus Paper I consists of 10 modules including topics such as teaching aptitude, research aptitude, comprehension, communication, mathematical reasoning and aptitude, logical reasoning, data interpretation, Information and Communication Technology, People, Development, and Environment, and Higher Education System.

In the GSET exam, five questions carrying two marks each will be set from each module mentioned in the GSET syllabus paper I.

The GSET exam syllabus 2024 for English covers topics like drama, poetry, short story, fiction, non-fiction. The GSET exam will assess critical thinking, critical reading, and writing skills while providing comprehension passages from the first four units. These four units will cover all literatures in English.
